About Us

History
Having re-started as a club after the Second World War, PRUFC moved to the current Moor Lane headquarters in 1960. The present clubhouse was built in 1967. As times moved on floodlights were erected and the 1980's saw the building of the stand overlooking the 1st XV field. The year 2000 saw the building of new changing rooms, providing excellent facilities for training and playing.

On the field Pontefract RUFC has gained some notable successes over the years, winning the Yorkshire Shield twice in 1951 and 1984, as well as succeeding in the Merit table and being runners up in the Yorkshire Cup in 1956.

After completing a successful 2006-07 season Pontefract finished as Yorkshire one champions, gaining promotion to North Two East.and finished as runner -up in the Yorkshire shield final
and annually compete in the Yorkshire Cup competition.

Many players have represented Yorkshire at U/19/Colts level, North of England and full England Colt's honours.

In 2001 the successful Pontefract Pythons were formed. The team plays competitive matches as an outfit part of Pontefract RUFC, currently competing in Yorkshire League 5.
